Santa Cruz Rug Cleaners
Santa Cruz’s Oldest, Largest and Finest Name in Rug Cleaning Since 1945
About Santa Cruz Rug Cleaners
Santa Cruz Rug Cleaners is a local rug cleaning company serving our clients since 1945. We offer a variety of services including rug cleaning and repairs, upholstery cleaning, mattress cleaning and much more.
We’ve earned two of the highest designations the rug cleaning industry has to offer – Master Rug Cleaner & Textile Pro – and are the only company in Northern California to achieve both of these gold standards in training and certification.
Although we are proud of these designations, we don’t think that was on Dan Fogarty’s mind when he opened up Santa Cruz Rug Cleaners back on Elm Street in 1945. Our building was small, and we washed rugs by hand and hung them outside on drying racks to dry.

In 1947, Dan saved up enough money to buy the land on Seabright Avenue and build his own building, which housed Santa Cruz Rug Cleaners up until 2013 when we moved to a new, more modern facility at 111 Dubois Street (one block behind Costco in the Harvey West Park area).
While many things have changed over the years, it is still family-owned and -operated and continues to provide the highest standard of service. We are Santa Cruz’s oldest, largest and finest name in rug, in-home carpet, upholstery and specialty cleaning.
Today, Santa Cruz Rug focuses only on what we do best – the hand-cleaning and care of Oriental and specialty rugs, delicate textiles and tapestries, carpet and upholstery. We serve the communities of Aptos, Ben Lomond, Bonny Doon, Boulder Creek, Capitola, Soquel, Live Oak, Santa Cruz, Watsonville, Corralitos, Monterey, Scotts Valley, Felton and La Selva Beach.
We take pride in providing the best value and the highest-quality work to our customers. All of our work is done in our plant by our experienced staff. We do not subcontract any of our work.

Time-tested Rug Cleaning & Rug Repairs Combined with the Latest in Rug Care Technology
Our operation combines time-tested rug cleaning and rug repair techniques with the latest in rug care technology. This blend of the old and new is critical because, while the basic components of rug cleaning – dusting, cleaning, rinsing, grooming and drying – have not really changed in over 100 years, the modern-day improvements in cleaning efficacy, quality control, plant efficiency, infrastructure and office procedures are significant.
Our plant features the most modern rug cleaning technology. For example, we still hand-wash each and every rug that comes into our plant but have added a centrifuge to extract moisture. We also use compressed air dusting and have a heated drying room to ensure that all of the rugs we clean are efficiently and effectively dried.
In addition to our hand-washing of handmade Oriental and machine-made rugs, wall to wall carpet cleaning and upholstery cleaning, we also clean mattresses, boat cushions and lamp shades. Santa Cruz Rug Cleaners offers urine and odor removal, fabric protection, residential and commercial and emergency water extraction.
